Hello, and thank you for purchasing "Heir to the Throne". A few rules here to help you with your game.


1: DO NOT close the page that contains the game. This will log you out completely and you will be taken back to the start. You can move through the quest by pressing next and previous however do not close the page it is on. You can swap tabs and switch pages with no problems. 

2: You will have to solve a series of clues and puzzles to work through the game. Please note; there are hints you can ask for to give you a nudge what to do however if you are well and truly stuck the downloadable answer sheet with the correct answers was emailed to you on purchase. (Only look if you are in desperate need - no peeking). The answers may be drop down answers, multiple choice or require you to write in a word/letters or numbers. Just make sure to always check the spelling.

3. You can go forward and backwards in between pages so you can check on orientation and where you have been - just click on the previous and next buttons at the bottom of the page.

4. If you click on an image to open it, it will open in a new tab. When you are completed it and want to shut it down just make sure you do not close the original page. You could also just zoom in on the picture instead of opening it. 

5. You will also learn lots of interesting facts about Lancaster as you progress through. Just make sure to tick the box after the fact to allow you to continue.

6: There is absolutely no time limit, so feel free to pop into any bars/pubs or shops that you want on your way around; sampling the delights that Lancaster has to offer.

The date is the 22^nd August 1485. Two days after seizing the crown from Richard III, Henry the VII, victor of the War of the Roses, has taken a secret trip to Lancaster.  His aim, burying his darkest secrets; secrets that if found would change the course of time…..acknowledgement of the true crown and heir to the throne.

Over the years there have been rumours of this lost document, that directly points to you as the true successor. Historical figures have left clues over the centuries to help find the papers. You have spent your life finding out where this could be buried…and now, have everything you need to uncover the secrets.

Follow the clues to find the manuscript, and prove yourself as the King/ Queen, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith.

To get Started, got to the Centre of the City, Market Square and look for a raised platform. LA1 1HT

You have in your hands a document. Pieced together with bits of information gathered over years of research. However none of it seems to make much sense. You can definitely see that there is a start point. It says:

"Market Square platform"

After that you see an array of letters and numbers. But you can't work out what they mean. You are stood on the top of the platform. 

Or can you? Take a close look for your first clue to proceed. 

6 (12), 1 (6), 4 (1), 7 (2), 8 (5), 9 (9), 2 (2), 6 (11), 4 (7)

On the stones you currently stand use to hold the stocks, to show off those poor souls accused of petty crimes.

Righteous. Yes that has to be it.

You quickly flick through your papers: until you find the word written in large bold font. 

Next to righteous are four simple words. 

"Bonnie wee plaque year"

You look around. Does it make any sense to you? 

The Museum you can see overlooking the square used to be the old Town Hall, and costs just £2054 to build. A bargain in todays money!

1745. You flick through your papers....eagerly looking for that date to appear....but nothing does. You can't believe you are stuck already. However a light clicks in you head; you add together all the number to get 17. You have definitely spotted that before. You quickly turn to page 17.

In large letters it says "VICTORIA". You immediately know where to go. 

Now head downhill on Market Street then turn right onto Penny Street

Take a left through Ffrances Passage and follow it until you meet the crossing. Wait for a green man then safely cross the road and enter into Dalton Square.

You see below a series of instructions. Can you follow them to find your next clue?

Stand behind our Queen, facing in the same direction she is. Then follow the clues below to gain your next code to progress with your quest.

Imagine the queen is facing 12 o clock on a clock face. You will need to travel around the queen in the directions provided to gain your next clue.

Firstly, travel 90 degrees clockwise. Then travel 180 degrees anti clockwise. Then a further 90 degrees anti-clockwise.

The travel a further 90 degrees clockwise, 180 degrees anti-clockwise and a further 270 degrees clockwise.

Take a look now to the top left hand corner of the monument and look for the word you can see.

No. 2 Dalton Square was home of Dr. Buck Ruxton, the Lancaster murderer who killed his wife and servant in 1935.  Next door, to the right, is Palatine Hall which now houses Council offices.  It was previously the County Cinema and before that, the Hippodrome variety hall and opera house. Originally it was a Catholic chapel built in 1798. Dalton Square occupies the site of a Dominican Friary. The Friary church lies beneath Sulyard Street and the cemetery lies between Sulyard Street and Moor Lane

That seems to make sense; as there is a section labelled "Freedom" in the book. Turning to the page it has a series of directions. You quickly head off to follow them.

Exit Dalton Square heading towards the town hall, turning left onto Nelson Street and then right onto Robert Street. Turn left onto Quarry Road then drop down onto the canal, keeping on the left hand side and follow the path past the pub and keep walking. You will pass under a bridge then take the first path that shapes sharply back on yourself back towards the main road and onto the bridge. You do not need to cross the road for your next clue.

You turn the page and see a quick line of text:

"What animal can you see on the bridge"

You immediately know the answer.

- The city's name was first recorded in the Domesday Book in 1086 as Loncastre, where "Lon" refers to the River Lune, and "castre", from the Old English cæster and Latin castrum for "fort", refers to the Roman fort which stood at the site

You search the book and find an image of a Lion.

Below it is a riddle....can you work it out? 

Four. That's the one. You turn to page four.

You see  some words written:

"Symbol, surname, date". But you don't really know what they mean. You head back to the city.

Now, a short walk. Keep the traffic on your right-hand side and follow the traffic down into the city, making sure to take care when crossing all roads.

Keep an eye out on the left of your sight as somewhere on the walls that you pass are a further two plaques, with one showing a symbol of a trade sign. Take the first letter from the name of the object. The second will have date from Penny’s Hospital. Take the whole year from this.

Finally, when you reach market street take a slight left before the lights and find your final plaque. Take the first letter of the surname of the famous man who stayed here.

The code will be as follows:

Symbol, surname, then date; written with no spaces. (e.g AB2021)

You follow the same code as before and add the numbers up. It takes you to page ten. You see a picture of a ship. You know where this must mean. 

Now safely cross the road and keep following the traffic down China Street, passing a famous coffee house on your left.

Keep with the traffic heading down the hill, however, turn left onto Damside Street, following it onto St George’s Quay and keep walking until you find the Maritime Museum.

Now a cryptic puzzle for you. You will see two items in front of the museum.

How can you turn one around without touching it?

The building is a former Custom House of 1764, designed by Richard Gillow, and now contains displays on the history of the Port of Lancaster and the local fishing industry, with a gallery for exhibitions

You sense you are getting close.  ROHCNA.

However you can't think of how the letters can be changed into anything. You flick over the pages and see a little chart.

"A = 1
B = 2
C = 3 etc"


Following this can you get a series of numbers from the word you just worked out?

Excellent. Well done team. You must be there. You add the numbers up again and turn to the right page. 

More directions:

"Now turn back towards the City Centre keeping the river lune on your left hand side. You will pass a street called BUOYMASTERS, now keep a sharp eye as you will have to make a swift turn right following the public footpath directed towards The Castle and Priory. Make sure you keep yourself safe and hold onto the railings and follow the path the complete way up to the Castle and Priory at the top."

You are now getting close….with only one more clue to find your hidden documents.

Once you have located the Castle and Priory, look towards the Priory entrance.

Above the door there is a sculpture of a lady with a child, and underneath him, a man’s face.

What sits on his head?

The answer will lead you to the location of the buried manuscripts.

A Roman oil lamp found in 1910 dates back to the year 180AD , which suggests that Christian worship took place on this site before Christianity was officially tolerated in the Roman Empire
