Piper attends the pub to speak to the doctor who was in charge of Mrs Freely last night. He was a lodger at the pub.
Piper - “Good morning Doctor Pugh I believe you attended at Mrs Freely’s room this morning to pronounce life extinct?”
Dr Pugh - “Yes that’s correct”
Piper - “Any ideas as to the time and cause of death?”
Dr Pugh - “The time is easy, between 7am and 8.30 am. The cause is more problematic. She obviously drowned but as to why : I’m not too sure. She had no illnesses and her records say she was not prone to fits. There were no unusual marks of violence on the body. The broken leg would not cause her to drown, so to speak. I’m afraid we will have to wait until the post mortem.”
Piper - “That will be this afternoon.”
Dr Pugh - “To be honest I know I have to be professional but Im not upset this has happened. I know her history and her sort just bring misery and ruin into peoples lives. My younger sister mixed with the wrong crowd and became drug dependant so I know the sorrow that the Freely’s bring to this city.”
Piper - “For the record where were you this morning?”
Dr Pugh - “At home. I came to work about 6.30 and then started my ward rounds. Many staff will be able to verify this.”
