Hello, and thank you for purchasing "Roman On A Mission". A few rules here to help you with your game.

1: DO NOT close the page that contains the game. This will log you out completely and you will be taken back to the start. You can move through the quest by pressing next and previous however do not close the page it is on. You can swap tabs and switch pages with no problems. 

2: You will have to solve a series of clues and puzzles to work through the game. Please note; there are hints you can ask for to give you a nudge what to do however if you are well and truly stuck the downloadable answer sheet with the correct answers was emailed to you on purchase. (Only look if you are in desperate need - no peeking). The answers may be drop down answers, multiple choice or require you to write in a word/letters or numbers. Just make sure to always check the spelling.

3. You can go forward and backwards in between pages so you can check on orientation and where you have been.

4. If you click on an image to open it, it will open in a new tab. When you are completed with it and want to shut it down just make sure you do not close the original page. You could also just zoom in on the picture instead of opening it. 

5. You will also learn lots of interesting facts about Chester as you progress through. Just make sure to tick the box after the fact to allow you to continue.

6: There is absolutely no time limit, so feel free to pop into any bars/pubs or shops that you want on your way around; sampling the delights that this fantastic City has to offer. 

7. Lastly; have fun and good luck.

You lay in wait. Silently. Taking your time and holding back for the opportune moment.

You know The Handler will be leaving the Castle soon; and with it the all important phone. 

Once a month, The Handler is provided with a code to allow that person access to the safe for just 90 minutes should he need to check on the diamond or any other of the artefacts the dealer has collected. Once the time is up; the vault goes on lockdown; and all hope of getting in and out are gone. The diamond is also moved to several different locations throughout the year, however you have it on good authority that it currently resides within Lancaster. 

Your plan; kidnap The Handler as he leaves the Castle and take his phone. Answer the phone at the given time; and follow the instructions to gain access to The Vault. 

You know the owner of the diamond has put many precautions in place to allow easy access to it; The Handler is well trained in problem solving and usually has no issues working his way through the puzzles; so you will have to use all your brainpower to escape with the prize.

There he is, you spot him; and quickly grasp him, knock him out using chloroform and bundle him into the boot of your car. No need for harming him; but he won't be waking up for at least 3 hours now. 

You search his body and locate his phone. The time is getting nearer. Your game has nearly begun. 

(Once your phone rings you will be given a code to begin your game: this will also start your time. You will have 90 minutes to complete your mission. Good luck team. If you have any issues whatsoever either consult the answer booklet provided on purchase or ring 01524 382 029 to discuss with an agent.)

Hello Handler. 

The diamond should be safely locked away; however if you wish to check on it you know what awaits. You will have to solve these puzzles to find the access code to The Vault. 

You should now be outside the main entrance to the Castle; so this first one should give you no problem. You will need to search the area to work out the surname of a certain James: which can be found on a white stone in the area.

On a meat based theme: Windermere and Cumbria is the Home of Britain’s 44th Protected Food

The unique cultural heritage of the Cumberland Sausage was recognised in 2011 when the pork coil-shaped snack was granted protected status.

Known for its distinctive peppery taste thanks to a blend of both white and black pepper, the Cumberland sausage is made from chopped meat which gives it a more chunky texture than its counterparts made from meat that has been minced.

True Cumberland sausages are around 2 feet long and a quarter of an inch thick and must contain at least 80% meat, making them a delicious and authentic treat for anyone visiting the Lake District!

The Lakes is a Haven From Zombies

Yes – this is absolutely true. If you find yourself in the midst of a zombie apocalypse and in need of somewhere to hide, look no further than Ennerdale, location of the most westerly of the lakes.

It was here that the characters from the 2002 Danny Boyle film 28 Days Later took refuge and managed to escape.

With its stunning beauty and sense of remote isolation, Ennerdale provided the perfect backdrop for the 2002 Danny Boyle film and is just an hour and a half’s drive from Windermere Marina Village.

7: that must be the first number. Keep it safe for now as you will need it later as well. 

"Ping" another message pops through. You know you will need to get four numbers to gain the access code to The Vault; and you think you now have one. 

"Facing out from the main entrance of the castle; turn right, heading clockwise around the castle grounds. Stay on the level path and keep walking around until you find a water fountain with a Lions head on it; near the rear entrance to the Castle. Once there, text the date the fountain was erected". 

You search around the castle; keeping your eyes peeled for the green fountain. Can you find it? And type in the date below. (Watch out for pesky cars parking in the way)

A text immediately responds with the next puzzle to complete:

"If 10 plus 4 equals two, what does 6 take away 9 equal?"

The Lakes are a Haven From Norse Princes

In addition to providing sanctuary from zombies, the Lake District offered similar protection for St Bega who fled to the area from Ireland.

Her father, an Irish chieftain in the seventh century, had promised her hand in marriage to a Norse prince.

She chose instead to come to the Lake District and devote the rest of her life to serving God. A small church, set in beautiful surroundings by Lake Bassenthwaite, has been named after her.

Nine: your second number. It has to mean that. 

The phone buzzes again, you quickly open it and read out loud. 

"To continue forwards, you have to travel backwards; to the year 1908. Can you work out what that means?"

To progress forward; return to the front of the Castle retracing the steps you have just taken. Follow the path down the slope to the White Stone of  your first clue, and then find the street named Castle Hill that appears in front of you. 

Head down the sloped road of Castle Hill, passing Judges Lodgings on your left to reach the main road, turning right onto China Street aiming towards China Street Halls (walking against traffic).

You know you have seen the date somewhere. But where? Keep your eyes peeled on your right for the answer to the message above. Can you find four letters (all capitals) to help you succeed?

Inventing new food is not restricted to savoury items. The beautiful vistas at Ullswater inspired Francis Coulson to create the very first sticky toffee pudding in the 1970s.

Made from fig and light sponge smothered in toffee sauce, this dessert has become popular the world over.

The original recipe however is reported to remain subject of a secrecy agreement at Sharrow Bay with the chefs promising never to reveal the full details, so if you want to try the original sticky toffee pudding as initially created while you’re on a self-catering break here in the Lakes, Ullswater is the place to head. Cartmel, close to Windermere Marina Village, is also known for its delicious Sticky Toffee Pudding so head on over!

You send the message YMCA, and get an immediate picture response. However, you feel elements of the picture are missing. You are pretty sure that the rest of the puzzle will be seen at The Vault, and when worked out it will give you your third number of the 4 digit combination. Continue on for now but keep this in mind. Type YES to continue onwards.

Not sure about that one, but just one more to go. 

The next message comes through; find the number next to "Lord Linoleum" on the raised platform. 

But where to go? Continue up China Street, passing Atkinson's on your right hand side. 

When you reach the crossing, safely cross over the road to your left and continue onto Market  Street. The task now is down to you; can you workout the code; and search the square in front of the Museum to find the answer?

In the heavy rains of November 2009, Windermere lake rose 157cm. Over the week, that translates into an extra 35,700,000,000 litres. 22,100,000,000 litres of those were added in just 36 hours!

You will next need to go to Lancaster Escape Room on North Road to access the safe.

Woodland covers 12 percent of the Lake District National Park, around 28,500 hectares! (approx 110 square miles)

Hmmmm, this is odd. What can this mean? Malus. You rack your brains...and you remmeber. This was the name of a suspect: "MArk LUsing" Could he be giving us a clue as to his identity. 

You ring the office: find out the address of Mr Lusing and decide to pay him a visit. 

Return to New Road and turn left, following the road into Windermere. Continue onto Main Road as it separates. Follow the road around the one-way system keeping your eye out for the well known location of "Brown Sugar", where Mr Lusing is said to be located. 

Your team quickly search the property, and find the body of Mark Lusing, lay dead on the floor...the killer is now teasing you: telling you where he will strike next. 

 
You search the body. On his back is written in blood the words "ACME HOUSE". Can you work out what he meant? And find the code to continue.

You search the rest of his body. Nothing. No signs of entry and no prints are lifted from the windows or doors. Mr Lusing was battered over the head before his feet and hands were removed from his body. 

On closer inspection of the room however you find a book that looks out for place. Could this be a clue? 

Where do you go to next? Can you work it out? 

There are more than 6,000 archaeological sites in the Lake District and this includes finds dating from between pre-history to World War II so there is something for all keen historians.  If you enjoy visiting historical sites, then Hardknott Fort was built on the Roman road that leads the Hardknott and Wyrnose passess and is a great site to visit in order to experience some of the past. Hardknott Fort is the best preserved Roman Fort in the country.

You decide the bible points towards heading to the Church next. 

Keeping Brown Sugar on the right hand side of you, you follow the one way system you were taking, up Main road and then onto Elleray Road, passing the Lamplighter on your right hand side. 

Continue until you reach Church Street, then turn left down the hill and keep your eyes wide open for St Mary's to appear on your left hand side. 


You search the church. Thankfully no more bodies.....yet but you do head the rustle of feet in the bushes, and catch a pair of eyes peeping out at you. 

You realise you have been suckered into coming here; and your name is next on the list. Quick as a flash you pull out your taser and fire; however he evades your shot and scampers into the distance. You realise your time is now....the hunt is on. 

To continue your chase, can you find out how many years the Reverend L.M.S Du Toit was Vicar of the parish for? 

Quickly now....you are nearly there: can you catch him before it is too late?

Continue your journey down Ambleside Road / A591 for about 5 or 6 minutes until you reach a roundabout.

You can just bout see him in the distance...however you are getting closer and closer; closing the gap at all times. 

Turn left onto Rayrigg Road when you reach the roundabout; following the signs to the World of Beatrix Potter. 

Continue onwards; following the killer as he flees down the road. 

Keep walking until you see a car park on the right hand side with stunning views of the lakes....a beautiful place to die?

He advances at you, weapon in hand and an evil glint in his eye.

Thankfully; at that point your back up team arrive....with 10 officers surrounding him he has no-where to go....but still his smile has not gone.

He take off his bag and throws it to the floor: you hear the tick-tocking of a bomb: with only 2 minutes left. His plan was to go out with a bang.

Can you work out the coded number to press into the bomb to stop it going off? Quickly now.
